The Housing Authority of the City of New Bern and the City of New Bern are kicking off an important update to the Greater Five Points Transformation Plan. This update will create a comprehensive master plan that guides neighborhood revitalization, supports FEMA-related recovery efforts, and prepares the community to apply for HUD’s Choice Neighborhood (CN) Implementation grant. This means a stronger, more resilient future for Greater Five Points. The transformation plan focuses on three areas:
Over the coming months, we’ll engage with residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure that the updated plan reflects the needs, hopes, and priorities of the people who live and work here. Working together, we’ll develop an updated master plan by Summer 2025. Your voice matters in shaping the future of the neighborhood! This meeting was held at the New Bern Towers for Trent Court Residents who didn’t get to attend the March session and also to update or inform any of the residents who wished to have a greater understand of where we are in the transformation process. The meeting covered the following:
These meetings were held in order to discuss how our design ideas were shaped by your input! We shared a presentation, drawings, and a large, interactive wooden model to show how these ideas for new housing and neighborhood investments might come together. We gathered and met with our People, Neighborhood, and Housing Task Forces once more. We also met with the Historic Preservation Committee, city officials in zoning and street standards, and members from our Board of Education and School district.
During this come-and-go open house held at Craven Community College we shared the design work in progress and provided details as well as updates to those who weren’t informed or able to attend our March sessions, all while having lunch together. An overview of the entire project was given by our CNI team and there was an opportunity for our community members to provide feedback on the plans made so far.
This meeting was held at the Stanley White Recreation Center. There was a presentation to share the final plan with strategies for People, Neighborhood, and Housing. A celebration followed to thank everyone for the hard work that has brought us to this point, and to keep the excitement going as we prepare for implementation!
